Across Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor

It's Sunday and I'm enjoying my first rest day of the trip, spent at Bellevor Hostel. 165 miles in 11 days. From the coast of Padstow we turned inland. I was joined by Peter and Linda Murray for a pleasant tramp along the sunny old railway line to Bodmin, following the Camel Valley. From Bodmin, with Chris Clements and Tim as companions, we headed South West to cross the centre of Bodmin Moor. We had a memorable night camping next to old hut circles, high on the moor, sunny in the day but a piercing cold wind in the evening. After crossing the moor, we continued through pretty country lanes to Lanceston. There was one more day of lane walking and then yesterday a long trek across the centre of Dartmoor, with plenty of ponies, firing ranges and Duke of Edinburgh groups. So we were pleased with a comfortable night in the hostel, shared with a multi-ethnic community group from Bristol and Plymouth, promoting use of the National Parks. My calf muscles are protesting very loudly! Looking forward to the spare chickpea curry which the community group gave us for our tea tonight. Tomorrow we continue on the Two Moors Way.
