Leaving the English coast
Just finished the sixth day of walking along a sun-drenched Cornish coast with Beth as company for most of the way. Will have covered about 90 miles (78 from Cape Cornwall, 84 from Land's End) by the time I reach Padstow this evening. Marvelous weather, but quite tiring in the brightness of the sun reflected off water and the cold Icelandic breeze. One epic day of close to 24 miles (had missed a few miles out of my route chart!) and 10pm arrival at a bunkhouse, down some very dark lanes. Moved from wild west Cornwall to the 'surf' coast and Newquay and now a gentler stretch as we reach Padstow. Quite a few people say: 'Where are you going?', and it's good to say 'north of Scotland, I hope!'. Still, so far, so good! Beth's off to catch the bus and the London train and tomorrow I turn inland on the old railway track from Padstow to Bodmin.

He's walking the Pennine Way from Kirk Yetholm and down! Throughout July though so you'll probably just miss each other.
